Sir Mick Jagger Is 70 Today

Of all the charismatic figures produced by rock- Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Eric Clapton- Mick Jagger is undoubtedly startling in his sustained flamboyance, his demonic power to effect even people who instinctively recoil from him, his uncompromising refusal to ingratiate.  Because of him, the Rolling Stones come just behind the Beatles in sustained and staggering success, and the “hipper” echelons of rock have always maintained that the Stones are the rock group, and one whose image and style have always reflected the true, raw nature of the music.
