“Victory in the Desert”: The End of The Six-Day War 45 Years Ago

For two weeks, Egypt’s Gamal Abdul Nasser had been riding high: the Gulf of Aquaba was closed to Israeli shipping, the Arab world was united and the Western powers seemed suddenly impotent. Then, early on Monday last week, Israeli Army struck, and in a towering military triumph redrew the map of the Middle East.
