AGAIN, THE SHADOW OF A GUNMAN

The speech, the cheers, the smiling candidate plunging into the crowd, the eager handshakes-and then the sudden pistol, the shots, the screams and a man stretched bleeding on the ground.  Once again, an unhinged loner, armed with a gun, had made a kamikaze raid into the heart of the Democratic process.  This time, the target was a man of the right: George Corley Wallace.
